A Day in the Life of a Personal Brand Strategist + Web Designer
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work behind the scenes as a personal brand strategist? As the mastermind behind the stories and visual identities of thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and influencers, a personal brand strategist plays a key role in shaping how individuals show up online. But building and maintaining a personal brand is more than just picking colors and writing bios—it’s about understanding human psychology, industry trends, and digital marketing, all while staying true to the individual’s unique voice and goals.
So, what does a typical day look like for me? Let’s take a behind-the-scenes look at the daily activities and challenges of someone who lives and breathes personal branding.
7:30 AM: Morning Routine and Inspiration Time
While I used to wake up earlier, I no longer start my day before 7am. After a cup of coffee (or two!), my mornings are spent in gratitude, looking over that day’s to-do’s, setting my top 3 priorities (if I didn’t do it the night before), and getting the kids ready for school.
Pro Tip: If you’re a morning person and like getting up early, good for you! If not, that’s ok too. A lot of articles tell us to start the day with certain routines but I have found, after 15+ years as a working adult, that you need to do what’s right for you. My morning routines have evolved as I’ve shifted from single, to married, to motherhood. Honor the stage you are in!
9:30 AM: Client Check-ins and Strategy Development
The first work activity of the day typically involves catching up with emails and clients. I will often begin by reviewing client updates, feedback, or requests that have come in overnight. This can include responding to emails, preparing for meetings, or reviewing any edits or feedback requested from clients or my designers.
10:00 AM: Creative Work Session
By mid-morning, it’s time for a deeper dive into creative work. For me, as a personal brand strategist, creativity isn’t just about making things look pretty — it’s about developing visuals, content, and digital assets that communicate a client’s story in a way that connects with their audience. This involves revisiting the client’s core messaging, visual elements, and audience insights. Crafting a comprehensive strategy means blending research on industry trends with an understanding of the client’s personal values, audience, and goals.
Depending on the client’s needs, this might involve:
Website wireframing: Drafting a website layout that effectively tells the client’s story.
Copywriting: Developing authentic brand stories, service descriptions, or blog articles.
Design Work: Collaborating with graphic designers to create custom visuals that resonate with the client’s target market. This could include logos, social media templates, or even full website designs.
PLUS…
Reviewing client bios and brand positioning statements.
Outlining content themes for blogs, social media, and websites.
Designing visual mood boards that represent the client's brand identity.
Aligning brand messaging with the client’s evolving vision and goals.
Pro Tip: I’m a big fan of my standing desk and desk treadmill. While I don’t always use my walking tread, I do find it really supports my overall health when I do.
12:30 PM: Break Time
Lunch is short, maybe 30 minutes generally, but I often step away from my desk and touch base with my husband, cook a simple lunch, and connect with personal emails and social posts. I’ll play with my dog, throw some laundry in the washer, or just close my eyes for a bit. Take a small break is imperative for creativity.
1:00 PM: Client Calls and Teaching
Afternoons are often filled with client meetings, strategy sessions, and teaching. Whether it’s a template upgrade, glow up or custom build, our clients are our biggest priority. When I’m not on client calls, I’m teaching at the local university (each semester is different but usually entrepreneurship or buying behavior).
What happens during a client call?
Brand Reviews: I may walk clients through a recent website redesign or discuss the development of their personal brand messaging.
Problem-Solving: A large part my role is guiding clients through challenges—whether it’s how to address negative feedback online or brainstorming ways to make a brand feel more personal.
Vision Refinement: Personal branding is never static. During strategy sessions, clients may want to pivot or grow their brand to align with new opportunities or goals. I help them adjust their brand identity or messaging to reflect these changes.
Pro Tip: Clear, consistent touchpoints with clients help ensure their brand evolves in a way that feels authentic to them while aligning with their business goals. Each of our services has a personal touch and experience so our clients always feel supported and taken care of through the web design process.
3:00 PM: Mom Time
I typically stop here and return to work later in the evening, depending on which project needs our attention at the moment. As a mom, my kids need to be picked up from school, taken to activities and supported with their homework. I spend most of my afternoons doing just that.
8:00 PM: Wrapping Up and Final Touches
As the day winds down and kids head to bed, I focus on any open tasks and my next day’s to-dos. This could be reviewing design work done that day, setting us up with ongoing tasks for the next day, or simply making sure we’re on track for any launches we have coming up that week or next. Ensuring everything is on track for the next day is key to staying organized and focused on multiple clients at once.
The Ever-Evolving Role of a Personal Brand Strategist
No two days are ever the same in the world of branding and marketing. While there’s a constant need to balance strategy, creativity, and communication, the end goal is always to help clients authentically and confidently present their best selves online.
